MARIETTA, GA — A 20-year-old woman is facing felony charges after attempting to steal a Canik pistol from TruPrep, a well-known gun and preparedness store just northwest of Atlanta. Her plan unraveled within seconds—ending with a bodyslam, a zip tie arrest, and a felony charge.

According to the arrest report, the woman—who is reportedly homeless—walked into TruPrep in Marietta, Georgia, and asked to see a Canik handgun. As is standard practice, the employee made sure the firearm was cleared before handing it over. That’s when the woman made a dash for the door, pistol in hand.

Unfortunately for her, another employee saw it all happening in real time.

That employee, a former Marine, sprinted out from behind the counter and intercepted her before she could leave the store. Surveillance footage and witness accounts confirm what happened next: a swift takedown. He wrapped an arm around her neck, lifted her off the ground, and brought her down. He disarmed her, got her onto her stomach, and—with perfect timing—used a set of plastic zip-tie cuffs that were hanging for sale nearby to restrain her until police arrived.

Cobb County officers responded and took her into custody without further incident. She’s now charged with theft by taking, a felony under Georgia law.

This incident highlights what we’ve said before—gun stores are probably the worst possible places to try to pull off a theft. Employees are often armed, trained, and situationally aware. Most are ready to act if something doesn’t feel right. This time, the response was immediate and effective, and no shots were fired.
