United States ruler Donald Trump said that the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support.” The comments were made after Iran rejected the US’s latest counterproposal.

Trump said that Iran’s proposal was “totally unacceptable” when presented with it a few days ago. He added that the state of the month-old truce is “unbelievably weak,” while speaking with reporters in the Oval Office.

Trump: Iran’s Peace Plan Is “Totally Unacceptable”

“I would call it the weakest, right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us — I didn’t even finish reading it,” Trump said. “I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, where the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living,’” he said, according to a report by CNBC.

Multiple attacks have been reported during the ceasefire, many taking place in the Strait of Hormuz. Israel has also continued to attack Lebanon.

Just last week, Iran attacked the United Arab Emirates, and the U.S. and Iran traded fire in the Strait. The Pentagon said it struck two Iran-flagged oil tankers.

The ceasefire officially began on April 8th, after Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s “whole civilization” if no deal was struck. It was originally slated to last just two weeks, but Trump unilaterally extended it on April 21st.

The Strait of Hormuz is also not fully operational, after Trump used the US Navy to blockade the waterway because Iran failed to follow through with its promise to reopen it.

Iran’s nuclear program seems to be the focus of most peace proposals. The US insists Iran give up its enrich uranium, while Tehran insists that its nuclear advancements are for peaceful purposes. Neither side has backed down, and neither side appears ready to do so.
