THE WOODLANDS, TX — A late-night break-in on November 10 ended in gunfire when an armed man forced entry into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and was fatally shot during an exchange with her current boyfriend.
Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2100 block of Sawdust Road around 10:00 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Inside the apartment, deputies found a deceased male with a single gunshot wound. A second man, suffering from a gunshot injury, was located nearby and transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
According to the initial investigation, the deceased was the former boyfriend of a woman present at the scene. Authorities stated that he had been sending threatening messages to both the woman and her new partner in the days leading up to the incident. That night, he reportedly broke into the apartment armed with both a pistol and a shotgun.
A gunfight ensued between the intruder and the current boyfriend, resulting in the former’s death and injuries to the survivor.
Detectives with the Major Crimes Division, along with Crime Scene Investigators and representatives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, responded to the scene. Officials have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, as the incident was isolated to those involved.
The case is pending further investigation and will be presented to a Grand Jury for review. Names of those involved are being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
This case highlights the importance of preparedness and awareness in personal relationships where prior threats have been made. In situations where escalating behavior is observed, taking early steps such as notifying law enforcement and creating a safety plan can be critical. Defensive firearm use, while always a last resort, can become necessary when faced with an immediate and potentially deadly threat.
