LAVEEN, AZ — An early morning home invasion in a Laveen neighborhood ended with a homeowner opening fire on multiple armed intruders, sending them fleeing and leaving one suspect hospitalized.

The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. Monday near 51st Avenue and Southern Avenue. According to Phoenix police, several armed suspects forced their way into a residence, prompting a man inside the home to defend himself and others by firing on the intruders.

One suspect was struck by gunfire, while the rest of the group quickly fled the scene. Police arrived to find the injured suspect, who was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No one inside the home, including the homeowner, a woman, and three children, was harmed during the incident.

Drone footage from the scene showed a firearm with an extended magazine lying in the driveway, alongside scattered shell casings and police evidence markers. Authorities have not yet released details about the suspects or their whereabouts.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted home invasion.

This incident highlights the critical importance of being prepared to defend yourself and your loved ones, especially within your own home. Home invasions can happen quickly and often involve multiple assailants, making swift access to a home defense firearm a key factor in successfully stopping a threat.

If you keep a firearm for home defense, ensure it is secured but readily accessible. Consider implementing a secure, quick-access safe, and regularly practice accessing and safely handling your firearm under stress. Additionally, having a plan for your household—especially when family members or children are present—can make all the difference when seconds matter.

Home is where you should feel safest, but preparation ensures you’re ready should an unforeseen threat arrive at your doorstep.
