MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men working inside a Memphis home disarmed a robbery suspect and held him until officers arrived, according to WREG, FOX13 Memphis, and a Memphis Police Department affidavit.

The incident happened June 8 at a home in the 600 block of Hillcrest in the Highland Heights area. When officers got there, they found the suspect, 18-year-old Leotha Bush, tied to the front porch railing.

Police say Bush first walked up and asked one of the men for a lighter. He left, came back inside the home, then pointed a black handgun and demanded the keys.

One man alerted the second, who grabbed the gun out of Bush’s hand. Together they wrestled him to the ground and secured him to the porch by his wrist until officers got there.

More from USA Carry:

Investigators later determined the handgun was a BB gun. Bush reportedly told police it was a prank and that he never intended to rob anyone.

That makes no difference to the men who faced it. A BB gun and a real pistol look identical when one is pointed at you, and these two had no way to know which they were looking at. I will say it plainly: you are allowed to respond to the threat as it appears, and they did exactly that.

Bush faces two counts of attempted aggravated robbery and a charge tied to carrying an imitation firearm, according to court records. He was being held on a $150,000 bond.
