SHREVEPORT, LA — A suspected intruder is recovering after being shot multiple times by an armed man during a late-night break-in at a Shreveport apartment.

According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to a shooting around 2 a.m. on November 24 in the 9700 block of Baird Road. Investigators say 41-year-old Lorenz Miller forcibly entered an apartment by climbing onto a second-floor balcony. Once inside, he encountered a man who was in the bedroom with the resident.

The man, who has not been identified, shot Miller multiple times during the confrontation. Miller survived the shooting and was taken into custody by police. He has been charged with Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling.

Police highlighted the risks associated with such unlawful actions in a pointed public statement: “In case you didn’t know… breaking into someone’s home can be a very risky decision.” They added, “Choices have consequences — and this one could have been deadly.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not indicated whether any charges will be filed against the shooter, who appears to have acted in defense of himself and the resident.

For law-abiding citizens, this incident reinforces the importance of having a clear home defense plan and the means to act quickly if faced with an unexpected threat. Confronting an intruder inside your home, especially during the night, leaves little time to react. Being mentally and physically prepared can make the difference in ensuring your safety and that of anyone else in the residence.
