EAST FORT WORTH, TX — A suspected break-in on the 6000 block of Grayson Street ended in gunfire Monday afternoon after a Fort Worth homeowner reportedly shot a man attempting to force his way inside the residence.

As reported by Hoodline, Fort Worth police were dispatched around 3 p.m. and found an injured man at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. According to the homeowner, the suspect tried to break into the home, prompting the resident to fire a small-caliber handgun in self-defense. The homeowner remained at the scene and cooperated fully with responding officers.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the situation escalated and whether any charges will be filed. The homeowner’s account and any available surveillance footage will play a key role in the ongoing inquiry.

Under Texas law, residents are permitted to use force — including deadly force — to defend themselves or others from an unlawful, forcible entry into their home, provided they reasonably believe such action is necessary to stop the threat. The Texas Penal Code outlines these self-defense provisions, which will guide law enforcement and prosecutors as they assess the facts.

Police have stated that the case remains active and are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817‑392‑4330 or submit anonymous tips through Tarrant County Crime Stoppers.

In incidents like this, situational awareness and readiness are key. Homeowners should understand their legal rights and responsibilities and consider steps to ensure secure home entry points. Knowing when and how to respond to a threat — and being prepared to clearly articulate the necessity of self-defense — is crucial for any armed citizen
