Multiple reports are stating that authorities have arrested Tyler Robinson in connection with the fatal sniper attack that killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. The investigation revealed a high-powered rifle was used from a rooftop 200 yards away as Kirk spoke with students.

OREM, UT (3-minute read) — A press conference is scheduled soon and will be viewable below.

Here is the information that multiple news agencies are reporting:

Authorities have taken 22-year-old Tyler Robinson into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down while speaking at Utah Valley University earlier this week.

The incident happened just after noon on Wednesday when Kirk, an outspoken conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was participating in a public discussion with students. The event, organized by the university’s chapter of Turning Point USA, quickly turned tragic when a single gunshot rang out, striking Kirk in the neck as he sat under a tent. Witnesses say panic erupted as students and attendees scrambled for cover.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the 31-year-old father of two was later pronounced dead.

Sniper Attack from Rooftop Shocks Campus

Video and eyewitness reports suggest the shot originated from roughly 200 yards away, likely from the rooftop of the nearby Losee Center building. Authorities confirmed that the firearm used was a high-powered, bolt-action rifle, commonly favored in long-distance, precision shootings.

Surveillance footage and forensic evidence led authorities to a key suspect. The FBI and local law enforcement identified a man dressed in black on video near the scene. Investigators recovered not only the rifle but also a palm print, footprint, and forearm impression believed to belong to the shooter.

According to President Donald Trump, who spoke on Fox & Friends, the suspect was turned in by someone who knew him, possibly his own father, with assistance from a minister and a U.S. Marshals Service agent. Trump did not disclose names but confirmed that the suspect went to a police station, where he was taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement works to determine motive and any possible accomplices.

Safety Tip: If you’re attending or hosting public events, always assess your surroundings. Identify exits, cover points, and stay aware of elevated vantage points. Threats can come from long range, making early situational awareness critical for survival.
