Thailand attacked Cambodia with air strikes today, after clashes broke out along the border on Sunday. The two countries are accusing each other of violating a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement. Is another war brewing?

Royal Thai Air Force spokesman Air Marshal Jackkrit Thammavichai announced later on Monday that F-16 fighter jets were deployed to “reduce Cambodia’s military capabilities to the minimum level necessary to safeguard national security and protect civilians.”

The Royal Thai Army has said new clashes first erupted on Sunday and accused Cambodian troops of opening fire at Thai soldiers in eastern Ubon Ratchathani province. According to a report by RT, one Thai soldier was killed, and four others were wounded, after which additional Thai soldiers were attacked with artillery and drones at Anupong Base, the army said.

A fifty-year-old border dispute escalated in July and resulted in violence, leaving dozens of people dead and displacing more than 200,000 people on both sides. The border dispute dates back to colonial times, when France, which ruled Cambodia until 1953, mapped the lines between the two countries.

After only five days of conflict and fighting, U.S. ruler Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire agreement that remained intact until now.

Another infamous ceasefire that appears, for all intents and purposes, to have been violated was also brokered by Donald Trump and the U.S.

Israel has continued to attack Gaza and destroy buildings during what should be an agreement to end the conflict.
