CARSON CITY, NV — A Saturday afternoon shooting on the 2200 block of Star Way appears to have stemmed from a heated road rage incident that escalated into a home invasion, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 1:56 p.m. on October 25, deputies responded to reports of a man shot just inside the doorway of a residence. When officers arrived five minutes later, they found the wounded man and several occupants of the home who immediately surrendered to law enforcement.

The man who was shot was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to the chest and then flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno for emergency surgery. His condition was described as serious.

Investigators say the shooting followed a verbal altercation between two men at a gas station on Highway 50 near the I-580 intersection. One of the drivers reportedly chased the other through the area, leading to two separate crashes before the shooting took place.

The first crash, on Biltmore Street, was a hit-and-run that damaged a local food truck, El Fogon, whose owners posted on Facebook that they were cooking inside when the runaway vehicle struck their trailer. “Thank God it was left in material losses since we were inside the trailer cooking,” the owners wrote, noting that repairs were underway and no one was hurt.

The second crash occurred just a block away at the Star Way residence, where the man allegedly forced his way into a home occupied by residents who had no prior connection to him. During the break-in, a woman inside the home fired one shot, striking him in the chest. Three residents were detained and questioned by deputies but were later released pending further investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the man who was shot was not known to the residents and that evidence suggests he was the aggressor in the encounter. No other injuries were reported.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and asks anyone with information to contact 775-887-COPS (2677).

This situation shows how quickly things can spiral once tempers flare. For those who carry firearms, it reinforces the importance of being mentally prepared, avoiding confrontation whenever possible, and knowing how to respond decisively if an immediate threat comes to your door.
